The latest press release from Planetary Resources about its partnership with Stratasys underlines the existing media stories about NASA, Branson’s Virgin Galactic, and SpaceX’s interest and activities in adopting in additive manufacturing methods for high performance orbital – plus applications.

Yet a number of hurdles remain to be tackled before a robust aerospace additive value chain can fully take off, including financial and equipment needs of vendors, standards, certification and process controls for advanced new materials like metals, composites and even ceramics!
